Jagjaguwar recording artist LIA ICES returns to the UK for a handful of shows this month - as Special Guest to The Low Anthem and The Cave Singers, plus a performance at this year's Green Man Festival (dates below)
To coincide, there is a beautiful new video to accompany the song 'Love Is Won', from her current album, 'Grown Unknown'. A mini- Roman Holiday shot on Super 8, it's the perfect accompaniment to the gorgeous, intricate fragility of the song.
WATCH/EMBED/DOWNLOAD it HERE
THE GUARDIAN - 'Love Is Won', the opening track on this Brooklyn singer-songwriter's terrific new album offers a suitably sparse, fragile and celestial introduction to her softly melodic charms
Also, rather unexpectedly So You Think You Can Dance (US TV show presented by Cat Deeley) used Lia's song Grown Unknown for their opening number - check out some contemporary dance HERE

LIA ICES UK SHOWS:

17th - BIRMINGHAM Hare & Hounds (w/ The Low Anthem)
18th - NORWICH Arts Centre (w/ The Low Anthem)
19th - GREEN MAN FESTIVAL

Lia's album 'Grown Unknown' (Jagjaguwar) released earlier this year has won her plaudits across the board:
UNCUT - Albums Of The Year **** .. the gorgeous 'Daphne' sounds like a folk-rock Fleetwood Mac. Best of all is the soul ballad 'Love Is Won' where Lia's slight, double-tracked voice tugs at the heart strings.
MOJO **** .. ridiculously simple but stunning. And just like her collaborator Bon Iver, Lia Ices seems to know that less is delectably more.
THE TIMES - Lia Ices has an unusually beautiful voice and a classical understanding of melody. Love Is Won has the lovelorn spirit of Carole King aligned with a lilting, swooping use of voice that finds the missing link between 1970s MOR and avant-garde.
TANK - a record of uncommon poise, like a more spectral take on Cat Power or a less flighty Kate Bush. Its ever-tasteful arrangements employ baroque orchestral flourishes, horns and piano, dipping them all in a stately reverb that lends her sound a vintage 1970s glow
THE FLY - strong, rich melodies wrapped in intricate instrumentation. Think of a modern Joni Mitchell, add limitless ingenuity and you're there
MAIL ON SUNDAY **** The stately piano, organ and celestial background vocals of Love Is Won all but justify the entry fee on their own, and that is only the first of nine minimal, intricate stunners
MONOCLE - a bewitching masterpiece
GRAZIA - crystallline vocals over featherlight folk pop. Feisty and just a little bit Feist-y

Jagjaguwar – home to Okkervil River, Bon Iver, Black Mountain et al – released ‘Grown Unknown’ by LIA ICES in February this year. Universally praised on it's release, it's a true slow-burner sure to be included in many End of Year Best Of lists
Recent shows in the US have seen Lia captivate both critics and audiences alike, and with a string of dates in August she's about to do the same here
Resident of Brooklyn NY, Lia began playing piano at a young age, honing her skills at NYU's famed Tisch School of the Arts. It was there she discovered an aptitude for writing haunting melodies – add to these Lia’s stunning voice, it’s a potent combination.
Lia Ices' emotionally driven and experimental pop music is both avant-garde and timeless. A natural yet refined grace permeates her work. Dancing on a finely crafted line between the percussive qualities of her instrument, and the melodic elements within the rhythm of her voice, Ices' music reveals itself.
‘Grown Unknown’ was recorded at The Clubhouse, Rhinebeck, NY, and mixed at Rare Book Room, NY, NY. Appearing as a guest vocalist for "Daphne," the only duet on the album, is Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. The magic generated by Ices' and Vernon's voices together is quite simply a powerful thing.
