Superchunk returned last year with their first new album in almost ten years and those ten years have allowed them to create without a doubt the best record of their career. Majesty Shredding telescopes two decades into 41 indelible, action-packed minutes. It is the sound of youthful exuberance fine-tuned with grown-up confidence.  Superchunk as always strike a unique and effortless balance between melody and force, craft and spontaneity, the energy of youth and the wisdom of experience.

In a year when indie-rock has had a major resurgence with the likes of Surfer Blood, et al, and Les Savy Fav have regularly been covering the band's classic "Precision Auto" at the end of their sets, it makes sense that Superchunk have returned to claim their rightful position at the forefront of thoughtful, intelligent independent rock music.

They have intermittently played shows in the US  since 2001 and released a handful of singles and EPs when time allowed.  Each member has been thoroughly busy - not least Mac and Laura who have been busy running one of the biggest US independent labels operating today, MERGE RECORDS, putting out the likes of Arcade Fire, Spoon, Neutral Milk Hotel etc.

AMANDA APPLEWOOD - Debut Album + New Single

AMANDA APPLEWOOD

‘I Love Boys’
Debut Album released September 12th 2011

'Pretend We're In Love'
Single released September 5th

Listen to songs from Amanda's album here:

‘I Love Boys’ is the debut album from Amanda Applewood

Up until now, Amanda Applewood has been best known as the keyboardist, recorder player and cake thrower with indie-pop favourites The Boy Least Likely To. While she was sitting on the tour bus to Cardiff one afternoon, she realised that she had written enough songs for her own album. She hijacked the band’s studio, and began recording the very next day.

Drugstore’s new single ‘Standing Still’ was conceived during a frosty weekend at the Drugstore cave. Written on a fan-donated guitar, with a poncho-wearing Isabel Monteiro under a mad-prophet guise, reminding us that in the end, it all fades to dust.

The song was recorded during the ‘Anatomy’ album sessions - another freezing day, this time on Platts Eyot, a remote island on the Western fringes of the river Thames - with a bottle of cheap brandy for warmth and inspiration.

Praise for The Rural Alberta Advantage’s debut, ‘Hometowns’:
NME  9/10  Awesome
Clash  ‘Hometowns’ is one of the best debuts of the year
Uncut  The RAA’s narratives are as expansive as the prairie where singer-songwriter Nils Edenloff grew up, but they’re also full of resonant, intimate detail. Clattering tearaway percussion lends his rustic pop a crucial urgency

Signed to Saddle Creek (home to Bright Eyes, Cursive, Azure Ray et al), The Rural Alberta Advantage write percussive folk songs about hometowns and heartbreak.

Buffalo Tom return with their eighth studio album, Skins, on March 7th 2011. Produced by the band in their hometown of Boston, Massachusetts and mixed by long-time collaborators Paul Q.Kolderie (who produced the band's breakthrough third album, 1992's Let Me Come Over) and Tom Polce, Skins is the follow up to 2007's Three Easy Pieces which brought Buffalo Tom back ino the spotlight after a nine-year hiatus.

The new album features guest Tanya Donnelly of Belly, Breeders and Throwing Muses fame singing on the song Don't Forget Me. Besides the standard CD, a deluxe edition will be available with demos and b-sides, as well as a vinyl version with a download card featuring the additional songs.

Buffalo Tom have fans in high places - before Jon Stewart hosted the president and other famous people on the set of The Daily Show, he had a late night syndicated talk show called The Jon Stewart Show.  On his final show, he asked his favourite band to play.  That band was Buffalo Tom.  They’re still Jon Stewart’s favorite band, and he’s currently the most trusted man in America.  They’ve had song titles turned into feature films such as Taillights Fade and were featured guests on the Claire Danes series My So-Called Life.

Writer/actor Mike O'Malley, whose star has recently risen higher as a result of his work as Burt Hummel on Glee, loves the band so much that he wrote in praise of Buffalo Tom and their new album. Here he writes of the moment he discovered the band when they released 1994's Big Red Letter Day:

"Here were men like me making music about things that mattered - how we navigate our lives amidst the messes we get handed and the messes we've made - and they were doing it with an authentic sound that had heft, texture and drive.   They did what we want our rock and roll to do - distill potent observations about life and disguise any sentimentality - eliminate it - by backing up the observations with guitars and drums.

"And for those who fell for the Buffalo Tom of Taillights Fade, Soda Jerk, Tree House and Summer, this document exists, in part to proclaim that Buffalo Tom's new album Skins is worthy of your attention. It has all the things that Buffalo Tom does well.    Songs about situations and subjects that the average human can relate to - with all the gravity you'd expect from a band that still has something to say.  Throughout Skins, Buffalo Tom is unafraid to go deeper than the surface layer, and they spend much of this record bringing forth warnings, laments and admonishments."

"Buffalo Tom makes music I drive to, run to, think to, drink to.  I listen to them for inspiration, for the way they turn their phrases and for the songs I’m still trying to figure out…my favourite band, Buffalo Tom."
