DR. DOG

NEW ALBUM    'B-ROOM'   NOV 4TH

STEREOGUM PREMIERES NEW SONG 'BROKEN HEART'

Stereogum.com has premiered a brand new track from the Philadelphia (US) band Dr. Dog entitled “Broken Heart.” The song, an energetic supremely catchy burst of re-imagined soul, is from the group's upcoming new album B-Room which hits stores November 4th. Listen to the song by going to: http://www.stereogum.com/1448161/dr-dog-broken-heart-stereogum-premiere/video/  .

B-Room is the culmination of a complete overhaul of the band’s writing and recording process, which finds them in a new self-built studio, writing songs live in rehearsal, and using the rock solid groove of the band, honed through workmanlike touring, as a powerful compositional tool. In its purest form, B-Room is a soul album. In an early review of a new song "The Truth" CMJ said this reconfigured sound, “Breezily pays homage to the kings and queens of Philly soul while allowing the boys to keep carving out a path of their own.”

Fans can pre-order B-Room via http://smarturl.it/broomdeluxe

Dr. Dog, renowned for their raucous and transcendent live shows, will be touring North America with The Lumineers this Fall. The tour will include a sold-out, three-night residency at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

Early Acclaim For B-Room's Sound:

“Reminiscent of the sounds of old-school soul and Motown tracks, but there is still a distinct modern/garage rock edge... What more could you ask for?”
- Filter

“The live take approach has stripped the band to their core, removing a lot of the psychedelic pomp and circumstance to leave only the soulful swagger of warmly vibrating organ, methodical guitar work, and McMicken’s world-weary harmonies.” - Consequence Of Sound

PITCHFORK PREMIERING NEW MAN MAN ALBUM

On Oni Pond Hits Stores November 4th

ManMan_Press Picture_2013

Man Man's new album On Oni Pond is streaming in its entirety at Pitchfork.com which is exclusively premiering the album in advance of its November 4th release. Fans can listen here: http://pitchfork.com/advance/206-on-oni-pond/. The album will be available digitally from September 9th on.

Early reviews herald On Oni Pond as Man Man's finest work to date. Esquire called On Oni Pond the band's “best album yet” and “an artistic and revelatory triumph.” Magnet proclaimed the album "the most enjoyable weird record of their career," while Alternative Press recently wrote, "With sprinklings of dub (King Shiv), ragtime piano (Curtains) and doo wop (Sparks), Man Man are still digging around in a diverse bag of influences. Fortunately, they keep pulling out winners."

In a recent Rolling Stone profile, album producer Mike Mogis tells how he noticed frontman Ryan Kattner’s musical growth and artistic determination while making On Oni Pond. "Kattner dialed in his lyrics, honed his vocal takes, and created space in their songs for hooks to shine through." Read the entire Rolling Stone story at: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/man-man-dial-tighten-up-for-on-oni-pond-20130830

On Oni Pond features an arresting reconstruction of Man Man's visionary sound – stripped to its core and rebuilt as something new and compelling yet still very much Man Man. This marked shift is a direct result of an intensive collaboration between the band's frontman, Honus Honus (Kattner), and drummer Pow Pow, who has assumed a new-found prominence in the songwriting process, bringing an exhilarating array of new rhythmic ideas to the mix. The compositions were further honed by the band members along with producer Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, First Aid Kit) into a compelling mash-up of Fear Of Music era Talking Heads, classic soul, psychedelia, hip hop, and 50’s rock and roll.

BILL FAY
'Life Is People'
(Dead Oceans)
Album released: August 20th 2012

MOJO - ALBUM OF THE MONTH - 5 STARS *****   'Bill Fay's first album in 41 years is astonishing'
UNCUT - 9/10   'Beautifully measured return from this humble master of English song'
Q - 4 STARS ****   'The staggering return of a great lost cult artist…an awe-inspiring experience'

NICK CAVE - 'Bill Fay is one of the greats - this is a beautiful album'
JEFF TWEEDY - 'I can't think of anyone whose records have meant more in my life'

For the unacquainted Bill Fay is one of English music’s best kept secrets – a genuine national treasure. Back at the dawn of the 1970s, he was a one-man song factory, with a piano that spilled liquid gold and a voice every bit the equal of Ray Davies, John Lennon, early Bowie, or Procol Harum’s Gary Brooker. He made two solo albums but his contract wasn’t renewed, leaving his LPs and his reputation to become cult items, later namedropped by the likes of Nick Cave, Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy and Jim O’Rourke. But he never stopped writing, and the music kept on coming. Now, in his late sixties, he has produced Life Is People, his first properly crafted studio album since 1971, that shows his profoundly humanist vision is as strong as it ever was.

Ranging from intimate to cosmic, epic but never grandiose, Bill’s deeply committed music reminds you of important, eternal truths, and the lessons to be drawn from the natural world, when the materiality and greed threaten to engulf everything. After nearly 50 years, Bill Fay has finally delivered his masterpiece.

Superchunk returned last year with their first new album in almost ten years and those ten years have allowed them to create without a doubt the best record of their career. Majesty Shredding telescopes two decades into 41 indelible, action-packed minutes. It is the sound of youthful exuberance fine-tuned with grown-up confidence.  Superchunk as always strike a unique and effortless balance between melody and force, craft and spontaneity, the energy of youth and the wisdom of experience.

In a year when indie-rock has had a major resurgence with the likes of Surfer Blood, et al, and Les Savy Fav have regularly been covering the band's classic "Precision Auto" at the end of their sets, it makes sense that Superchunk have returned to claim their rightful position at the forefront of thoughtful, intelligent independent rock music.

They have intermittently played shows in the US  since 2001 and released a handful of singles and EPs when time allowed.  Each member has been thoroughly busy - not least Mac and Laura who have been busy running one of the biggest US independent labels operating today, MERGE RECORDS, putting out the likes of Arcade Fire, Spoon, Neutral Milk Hotel etc.

AMANDA APPLEWOOD - Debut Album + New Single

AMANDA APPLEWOOD

‘I Love Boys’
Debut Album released September 12th 2011

'Pretend We're In Love'
Single released September 5th

Listen to songs from Amanda's album here:

‘I Love Boys’ is the debut album from Amanda Applewood

Up until now, Amanda Applewood has been best known as the keyboardist, recorder player and cake thrower with indie-pop favourites The Boy Least Likely To. While she was sitting on the tour bus to Cardiff one afternoon, she realised that she had written enough songs for her own album. She hijacked the band’s studio, and began recording the very next day.

Drugstore’s new single ‘Standing Still’ was conceived during a frosty weekend at the Drugstore cave. Written on a fan-donated guitar, with a poncho-wearing Isabel Monteiro under a mad-prophet guise, reminding us that in the end, it all fades to dust.

The song was recorded during the ‘Anatomy’ album sessions - another freezing day, this time on Platts Eyot, a remote island on the Western fringes of the river Thames - with a bottle of cheap brandy for warmth and inspiration.
